A hike through the Khumbu Valley, the valley which is home to the highest mountain in the world. On the trek, we take the traditional route which goes up to the Everest Base camp. We fly into the valley at Lukla and via Namche hike up to Tengboche, home to the biggest monastery in the region which also offers a spectacular view of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other prominent peaks of the Khumbu. This short trek is the best way for you to explore the famed valley as well as view Everest without the rigours of going up to base camp over 16 days.

Please Note: From 2024, we are offering the departure where you can purchase your own food at tea-houses and hence it is not a part of our package. The pricing too reflects this change in offering.

Itinerary

Show Detailed Itinerary
Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to hotel. We are introduced to our trek leader and other members of the tour. Overnight at hotel.
The flight takes 40mins to reach Lukla from Ramechhap. Upon reaching Lukla we start our trek to Phakding, our destination for the night. The trekking trail from Lukla descends to Tharo Koshi, a small settlement by a small stream. From here we have a gradual uphill trek to Phakding (2610m). Overnight at lodge.
We start the walk following the Dudh Kosi upstreams, passing through small villages and settelments but the landscape is dominated by pure pine groves. We climb for a short while to rise above the gorge and through the entrance to the Khumbu National Park. The trail is good and leads to a confluence of rivers — one coming down from Thame and the other from Khumbu. The last leg of the trail takes us over a breathtaking suspension bridge, from where on we climb for about 90 minutes to Namche on a wide switchback trail. Overnight at lodge.
We hike up to the village of Khumjung, which offers magnificant views of Everest. The village has sizable amount of sherpas who contribute to climbing expeditions to peaks above 8000m. You also get to see the traditional sherpa culture on the visit. We hike back to Namche for the night or head to Khangjuma if time permits to shorten out next day. Overnight at Lodge.
The trail is easy, though you'll feel the effects of altitude on this five-hour jaunt — but that is if you find the time while looking at the other-worldly scenery that surround the trail. From Namche the trail is almost flat till we reach kyangjuma, a small village offering magnificant views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lohtse and Everest. From Kyangjuma we desend down stteply to reach a small village Phunkethanga, our lunch point. Beyond it we climb to Thyangboche, one of Nepal’s finest monasteries, along a ridge. We stay here to savor views of the Everest/Lhotse massif and Ama Dablam. Overnight at lodge.
We descend to cross the Dudh Kosi river and then have a steep ascent towards Namche which eases off as we get closer to the Kyangjuma village. Lunch break at Namche, before we start descending steeply to Monjo where we call off the day. Overnight at lodge.
From Monjo the trail descends the valley which becomes more enclosed as we pass the villages of Phakding and Chopling, to reach Chaurikharka. Here we begin the final climb of the trip - the sting in the tail - with a 45 minute steady ascent up to the airstrip at Lukla. Overnight at Lukla
Early morning we take the flight to Ramechhap and later drive to Kathmandu. Evening free for sightseeing or shopping in the bazaar. Overnight at hotel.
Our Services end after breakfast.

What to expect

Any trip rated as a 'Beginner Trek' is an ideal first step into the world of trekking in the Himalaya. The trips are short - generally under a week - in moderate altitudes with gradual altitude gain. A typical day will involve 4-5hrs of hiking on mountainous trails with an odd day over 6hrs. Most beginner treks in the Indian Himalaya are camping trips where overnight accommodation will be in tents. You will be accompanied by our camping and kitchen staff throughout the trip. In Nepal, all our stay and accommodation on the trail will be in tea-houses. This trek suits individuals looking for their maiden trek in the Himalayas or families which want to introduce their young ones to trekking.

Internal Flights: Please note that poor weather can cause delays on the flights on Kathmandu-Lukla sector. At the end of the trip you should book the afternoon flights out from Kathmandu which gives you a day against delay on the flight back from Lukla. Helicopters can sometimes fly when the scheduled fixed wing aircraft cannot. If your group is offered the opportunity to use a chartered helicopter, either flying up to Lukla or back to Kathmandu, the cost will be shared between those choosing to take this option. In the extremely unlikely event that flight cancellations cause you to miss your homeward international flight, we will render all assistance, but cannot be held liable for any extra costs incurred. You could explore having an insurance for your flight cancellations.
