The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek lies in the Annapurna region and is a lovely walk through terraced farm fields and rhododendron forests affording some of the best Himalayan views. Also of great interest would be staying in some enchanting Nepalese villages belonging to the Gurungs and Magars. The summit of Poon Hill(3190m) which is the highest point on the trek offers one of the most incredible views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre(Fishtail) peaks. Flying in from Kathmandu to the lake city of Pokhara, we drive a short distance to Nayapul our starting point. We then head off west from Birethanti towards Tikhedunga and walk through Ghorepani, Tadapani and Ghandruk. Thus completing a circuit at Birethanti. We end the trek at Nayapul and drive to Kathmandu. This is easily the fastest and best possible way to trek in Nepal and the Annapurna region without worrying about altitude and hard terrain. This trek can be done all through the year except the monsoons. Spring would be the best time to do the trek if you want to watch the Rhododendrons in full bloom against the stunning Himalayan backdrop.

Please Note: From 2024, we are offering the departure where you can purchase your own food at tea-houses and hence it is not a part of our package. The pricing too reflects this change in offering.

We take the half hour scenic flight to Pokhara and drive for around 03 hrs to Tikhedhunga via Nayapul, the start point of the trek which is along the Modi Khola river. After lunch at Tikhedhunga(1525m), a Magar Village we start our trek after crossing the bridge. From this point it is all steep uphill climb up to Ulleri – another Magar village.
We begin the day with a steep climb from Ulleri(2070m) for couple of hours but later the trail gets gradual uphill till Nangethanti(2460m). Continue through the woods to finally arrive at Ghorepani(2875m). A long day taking almost (6 hrs)
We get an early start and hike upto PoonHill to catch the sunrise on the Annapurna range. We return to Ghorepani for breakfast and proceed to Tadapani mainly through rhododendron forests (6-7 hrs). The trail is complete mixture of steep uphill, steep downhill & gentle walk till we reach Tadapani
Steep descent through forests before the trail eases as we reach Ghandruk(2000m), the big Gurung village and later drive to Pokhara (3hr trek - 2hr drive). Overnight Hotel

What to expect

Any trip rated as a 'Beginner Trek' is an ideal first step into the world of trekking in the Himalaya. The trips are short - generally under a week - in moderate altitudes with gradual altitude gain. A typical day will involve 4-5hrs of hiking on mountainous trails with an odd day over 6hrs. Most beginner treks in the Indian Himalaya are camping trips where overnight accommodation will be in tents. You will be accompanied by our camping and kitchen staff throughout the trip. In Nepal, all our stay and accommodation on the trail will be in tea-houses.

This trek suit individuals looking for their maiden trek in the Himalayas or families which want to introduce their young ones to trekking.
