Phoktey Dara Trek is a unique combination of walking in the Barsey Sanctuary in Sikkim and traversing the Singalila Ridge which forms the border between India and Nepal. Its a wonderous combination of best of both the treks - an opportunity to walk in the jungles home to diverse flora and fauna of the Himalayan region that Sikkim is known for and enjoying the stunning views of Kangchendzonga and surounding mountains from the Singalila Ridge. It is an ideal trek for beginners looking for a camping experience in the region while staying completely away from the crowds. On a clear day, the grand panorama from Phoktey Dara can give you views of Everest, Lhotsey and Makalu on the west. Picturesque campsites, a chance to experience rhododendron bloom if trekking in the spring season and great views make this trek a brilliant choice for those looking to explore the region.

Note: This trek can only be done by Indian Nationals as it involves walking on the Indo-Nepal border in two different Indian states

Itinerary

Day 01: Bagdogra to Darjeeling (2134m)

Arrive Bagdogra airport and drive 3-4 hrs through the tea estates to Darjeeling. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Drive to Uttarey & trek to Chitre (2680m) - (7 hrs drive & 4hrs trek)

After an early breakfast, we set off to Uttarey, our trail head. The road follows the River Rangeet, passing through a beautiful steep sided valley en route. Here we need to show our trek permits. Our first walking day of the trip is on a good trail, through abundant rhododendron forest and cardamom plantations, to a campsite clearing in the forest above the army camp at Chitre (2680m). 4 to 5 hours trekking Overnight Camp.

Day 03: Trek to Phoktey Dara (4-5hrs)

We start early once again to climb gradually towards the highest point of the trek Phoktey Dara. The walk to Phoktey Dara is all uphill climb lots of steps and some sections are little steep. We walk mostly through the rhododendron and pine forest. On a clear day the view is very lovely from Phoktey Dara. You can also see Everest , Lhotse and Makalau. We get back down a bit from the top and camp at Kalijhar. Overnight Camp

Day 04: Trek to Phalut (6-7hrs)

We now walk on the the same ridge of the Phoktey Dara as we make our way towards West Bengal from Sikkim, today's trail is filled with multiple ascents and descents as we walk along the contours of the ridge connecting the Singalila top with Phoktey Dara top. Overnight Camp

Day 05: Trek to Molley (3450m) 4-5 hrs

Now that we have walked on the high ridges, we start descending towards Molley through the forests filled with Rhododendron and Oak among other trees. You get to see lot of flora and fauna enroute and is especially interesting day for those interested in birding. Its a significant descend from Phalut and we camp at Molley which is located amidst the pristine forests.

Day 06: Trek to Sirkhola (1900m) (5 hrs) and drive to Darjeeling (4hrs)

We descend further down to the ever expanding village of Sirikhola. Khola means a stream and by the village is one of the streams which contribute to the Rangeet river which forms the border between Sikkim and West Bengal. We say goodbyes to our kitchen and camping staff at Sirikhola and make our way to Darjeeling amidst winding hill roads. Overnight Hotel

Day 07: Drive to Bagdogra ( 5 to 6 hrs)

We start our drive in the morning to Bagdogra airport from where you fly back home. Trip ends!

TRIP COST INCLUDES

- All travel from Bagdogra airport and back to Bagdogra airport by road (by non AC car)
- 02 nights hotel accommodation on full board in Darjeeling
- All arrangements for staying while on the trip, accommodation on twin share basis in Tents on the trail
- Sanctuary fee / royalty / permits where applicable
- All trekking arrangements - experienced guiding team, camp staff, cook, etc
- GST as applicable (Subject to change as per govt rules).

TRIP COST EXCLUDES

- Sleeping bag and items of personal clothing
- Airfares & airport taxes
- Expenses of a personal nature like laundry, phone calls, beverages, insurance, camera fee
- Any costs arising out of unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, landslides, road conditions and any other circumstances beyond our control.

Cancellation terms

If it becomes necessary to cancel your trip, you must notify the office immediately in writing. The following terms would be applicable.

• More than 45 days prior to departure - we will refund the entire amount received by us minus a processing fee.

• Less than 45 days prior to departure - 25% of the Trip Cost as the cancellation charges and we will refund the balance.

• Less than 30 days prior to departure - 50% of the Trip Cost as cancellation charges and we will refund the balance.

• Less than 21 days - the entire amount would be forfeited.

The tour price is quoted as a package. No partial refunds or credit will be given for services not used. We recommend that you obtain cancellation travel insurance upon booking. If you can replace your spot by getting someone else to take that seat cancellation charges would be waived completely.
