This 7-day Bhutan journey blends scenic drives, gentle hikes, and deep cultural immersion as you traverse some of the kingdom’s most beautiful valleys and passes. Beginning with a dramatic arrival in Paro and a drive across the high Chele La Pass, you descend into the serene Haa Valley, where alpine meadows, fluttering prayer flags, and centuries-old temples reveal a quieter, more traditional Bhutan. Explore Haa on foot, visiting the White and Black Temples, picnicking in forested meadows, and enjoying local food before returning via Chele La to Paro. Here, soak in Bhutan’s history with visits to Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum, then tackle the iconic hike to the cliff-hugging Tiger’s Nest Monastery, its dramatic setting matched by the spiritual legends surrounding it. Continue to the capital, Thimphu, pausing at sacred bridges and giant Buddha statues, bustling craft markets, and the royal fortress of Tashichho Dzong. A final forested hike from Hongtsho to Dochu La Pass rewards you with sweeping Himalayan views and the 108 memorial chortens, a fitting culmination to a week filled with pristine landscapes, living traditions, and the quiet spirituality that defines Bhutan.

We start in the morning with a visit to Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple), believed to be built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Then, we embark on a gentle day hike (2–3 hrs round trip) through pine forests and scattered hamlets. Witness villagers tending fields and yaks grazing and we take lunch in a meadow or by the river. In the afternoon, we visit a traditional Haa farmhouse for cultural immersion – try local snacks, butter tea (suja), or ara (homemade rice wine). Evening free to explore more of Haa town. Overnight Hotel in Haa
After breakfast, drive back to Paro via the scenic Chele La Pass, with an option for a short ridge hike to spot alpine flowers in spring or colorful Himalayan birds. Upon arrival, visit the impressive Rinpung Dzong, a monastery-fortress known for its intricate woodwork, and the Ta Dzong, a former watchtower now housing a rich collection of thangka paintings, textiles, and artifacts. Spend the evening at leisure exploring Paro’s charming town, browsing handicraft shops, or relaxing in its cozy cafés.
After early breakfast, start hike to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan’s most sacred site (Hiking time: 4–5 hrs round trip | Moderate | Max altitude: 3,120m) Legend says Guru Padmasambhava flew here on the back of a tigress to subdue a demon. Trail winds through pine forests with moss-draped trees and colorful prayer flags. Stop at Taktsang Cafeteria (halfway) for tea/coffee and the first full view of the monastery. Final climb via carved steps and a bridge across a waterfall to reach the monastery. Return to Paro for lunch. Afternoon free to rest or an optional visit to Kyichu Lhakhang (a 7th-century temple).
After breakfast, drive about 1.5 hours (55 km) from Paro to Thimphu, stopping en route at the Tamchog Lhakhang Bridge, a historic iron-chain suspension bridge built by the 15th-century saint Thangtong Gyalpo. In the capital, visit the towering Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking the valley, the revered Memorial Chorten, and the grand Tashichho Dzong, seat of Bhutan’s royal government and monastic body, with an optional stop at the Folk Heritage Museum for a glimpse of rural life. Spend the evening exploring Thimphu’s vibrant Craft Bazaar or sampling local delicacies at a traditional restaurant.
Begin the day with a short 30-minute drive to Hongtsho for a moderate 3–4 hour round-trip hike through rhododendron, oak, and hemlock forests, where Himalayan bird sightings are common. The trail leads to the scenic Dochu La Pass (3,100 m), marked by 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers and offering sweeping views of peaks such as Masagang, Tsendagang, and the unclimbed Gangkar Puensum on a clear day.
