Snow Leopards are some of the most difficult animals to spot in the wild. They usually live at altitudes over 15,000-16,000ft in summers and prey mostly on Bharals or Mountain goats, Ibex, Himalayan Thar and Markhors. During the winters, all their prey come down in search of grass and with them the snow leopards too start coming to lower altitudes and that is the best chance for wildlife enthusiasts to sight them. India has approximately 500-600 snow leopards and Ladakh alone is expected to have 200 snow leopards. Along with the sighting trip you also get to witness the winters of Ladakh when barren landscapes turn to beautiful white scenery along with getting a firsthand experience of life of the locals in harsh winters.
You will be accompanied by an experienced guide who is well versed in setting up sighting equipment and with in-depth knowledge about the snow leopard and other wildlife.

Itinerary

Show Detailed Itinerary
Take the most picturesque flight in the Himalaya over snowy mountains to arrive in Leh. Transfer to Hotel and rest for the day. You can walk down or take a stroll around the Leh market in the evening. Overnight Hotel.
We drive on the Kargil road towards Ulley Village. We stop by some of the major attractions on this route like the famous Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, Magnetic Hill, Confluence of Zanskar & Indus and Basgo Fort.. Overnight Homestay.
On a typical sighting day, we hike up to a designated point to set up the sophisticated sighting equipment which will be carried by our guide. He then keeps his ears tuned for calls by the sheep/goats which are the first to sense the presence of the snow leopard. He will then scan the areas through special binoculars for probable presence of the wild cat. You require a lot of patience to spot a snow leopard as it takes a lot of waiting to sight one.
We drive from Ulley towards Hemisshukpachen & spend 2 nights in the region looking for elusive cats. Overnight Homestay
We have a leisurely day in Leh to spend it as we want. You can walk around Leh town, do some winter shopping, or drive to Khardungla and back. Overnight hotel in Leh.
Early morning transfer to Leh airport and fly out to Delhi.

What to expect

Any trip rated as a 'Beginner Trek' is an ideal first step into the world of trekking in the Himalaya. The trips are short - generally under a week - in moderate altitudes with gradual altitude gain. A typical day will involve 4-5hrs of hiking on mountainous trails with an odd day over 6hrs. Most beginner treks in the Indian Himalaya are camping trips where overnight accommodation will be in tents. You will be accompanied by our camping and kitchen staff throughout the trip.

This trek suits individuals looking for their maiden trek in the Himalayas or families which want to introduce their young ones to trekking & love for Snowleopards.
