This is an off-beaten trek that runs to the east of the popular Annapurna Base Camp trail. The initial hike is through forests which are home to a variety of rhododendron trees. As we gain altitude, the trail takes us within touching distance of Maccha Puchare (Fish Tail), a spectacular and imposing mountain. Once above 3500m, the trail opens up and we walk on meadows with views of Annapurna South and Huinchuli for company. Reaching the base of Mardi Himal peak at 4450m is the high point of the trek where a panorama of peaks of the Annapurna Sanctuary like Singu Chuli, Gangapurna and Annapurna III are visible up-close. The trek is an ideal choice for those looking to experience the grandeur of Nepal's big mountains while staying away from the more popular and crowded trails.

A trip graded as a Moderate Trek takes you to high altitude regions - above 3000m / 10,0000ft and will involve considerable altitude gain over the course of the trek. Altitude will have an effect, hence one would need to be careful about acclimatization. Moderate treks will have multiple days which involve considerable amount of ascents and descents and would require walking for more than 6 hours. There might be a day or two of camping in relatively high altitudes above 4000m / 13,000ft. A typical trek will last around a week to ten days depending on the region and is a good step-up for people who have completed a beginner trek.
Good fitness level is very much needed to enjoy this trip. Some training up before the trip would help. Prior trekking experience is desirable but not compulsory.
