Challenging Trek

Himachal Pradesh is the region where Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges meet the Great Himalayan Range and where four out of the five main tributaries of Sindhu / Indus river flow. The Himachal section of our GHT starts from Kaza in the Spiti valley from where we drive to our road-head near Tabo, home to an ancient monastery which is over a thousand years old. The trek starts from the Gyundi Nala after we get on the Ratang Glacier. We then move towards the Bara Shigri Glacier, the 27 kilometer long river of ice, the largest in Himachal Pradesh. Our trail then heads towards Pin Parvati Col, the famed pass between the Parvati and Pin river valleys, before descending down to Mud, the last village of Pin valley. The last part of our Himachal section is through the picturesque Bhabha Pass, where we experience the grand transition from the arid trans-Himalayan region to the greenery of Kinnaur.

What to expect
A Challenging trek would take you to altitudes above 5000m / 16,500ft. A routine day will have over 6 hours of hiking and will involve a great deal of ascending and descending on sparsely tread trails. The terrain will be varied on these treks and you can expect walking on moraines / boulder fields and cross small glaciers. Acclimatisation is a concern, the itineraries are carefully planned and allow everyone to acclimatise to the increasing altitude. Exposure to cold temperatures is quite high on these treks, all participants are expected to have good quality equipment & clothing to enjoy these treks. A mix of wilderness, altitude, terrain and duration makes these treks challenging. The trek is suited for people with high fitness levels looking for a challenge and capable of enduring multiple weeks in the outdoors.
