Ladakh lies in the eastern half of the state of Jammu & Kashmir in the far north of India. It shares its much disputed north-western border with Pakistan, while to its north lies the Chinese province of Sinkiang, and the Chinese occupied Tibet in the east. Although Tibet is politically a part of China today, Ladakh, like parts of Nepal, is situated on the Tibetan plateau. Ladakh has many Tibetan refugees who fled Tibet with the invasion from China. The daunting height of the Himalayas adds to its isolation. Even today the main road routes to Ladakh remain closed for more than six months every year. Ladakh is full of amazing sights - strange gompas perched on soaring hilltops dwarfed by snow capped mountains, the barren landscapes splashed with small, brilliant patches of green, and ancient palaces clinging to sheer rock walls.

The flight to Leh takes us over the Greater Himalayas and makes an exciting landing at one of the highest airports in the world. Leh is at an altitude of nearly 3500m and you can expect to feel the effects of the altitude, you may be a little breathless and perhaps have a slight headache. These symptoms of altitude sickness are mild and usually disappear quite quickly, however, everyone is advised to take it easy for the first day or two. Overnight at hotel.
Visit the famous monasteries of Shey, Leh Palace & Thiksey. Back to hotel for lunch. Evening is free to explore the Leh market. Overnight at hotel.
We will pass the airport and Spituk gompa on our way, travelling west of Leh towards Kargil. After 36 kms of leaving Leh, we reach Nimu, the confluence of the Zanskar with the the Indus, the lion river. The next 60 kms are a culture vulture's dream. The historic gompa of Alchi is only a 4 km excursion from here. Further down the road we reach Khalsi where the road crosses the Indus river and slowly winds its way upto the beautiful gompa at Lamayuru. We visit the famous Lamayuru monastery and drive back to Alchi (description above). Overnight at guest house in Alchi.
Nubra Valley Known as Ldumra (the valley of flowers) is situated in the north of Leh. The average altitude of the valley is about 10,000 ft. above the sea level. The main attraction in this area is the Bactarian camels (double humped camel) around sand dunes, and the Deskit and Samstanling monasteries. The road journey to Nubra valley leads through the world’s highest motorable road, Khardongla Pass which is at a height of 18,380 ft above sea level. Overnight at Sumur/Hundar.
Visit Deskit and Samstanling monasteries and continue on the drive back to Leh. Arrive Leh post lunch and relax. Evening free to explore the interesting market in Leh. Overnight at hotel in Leh.
Pangong Tso can be reached in a five-hour drive from Leh, most of it on a rough and dramatic mountain road. The road crosses the villages of Shey and Gya and traverses the Chang La (5360), the second highest motorable pass. The road down from Changla Pass leads through Tangste and other smaller villages, crossing a river called Pagal Naala or "The Crazy Stream". Pangong Tso is 134 km long and extends from India to Tibet. 60% of the lake lies in Tibet, which is today under China's rule. Overnight fixed camp at Pangong.
Post breakfast, drive back to arrive at Leh by lunch time. Overnight at hotel
Early morning transfer to airport to board the flight back to Delhi.

  • - More than 45 days before departure: 10% of trip cost + cancellation charge on services booked for you (air/ train/ bus tickets, hotels etc).
  • - 45 - 30 days before departure: 50% of the trip cost + cancellation charge on services booked for you (air/ train/ bus tickets, hotels etc).
  • - Less than 30 days before departure: 100% of the trip cost.

What to expect

 This trip is graded as Discover Adventure. These trips have mild physical activity and are intended to provide a gentle entry into the world of adventure. Instead of tented camps, accommodation is provided in simple yet comfortable guest houses or lodges hosted by the locals. These trips might involve some jeep drives into the wilderness or day hikes or even short overnight treks. Wherever you go you always return to the comfort of a guest house, lodge, or resort at the end of the day where you will find a clean and comfortable bed to sleep on, a home-cooked meal and all the creature comforts of civilization. To give you an experience of camping, there might be a night at a fixed camp in a remote area. Fixed Camps have large tents with beds to sleep on and have flush toilets either attached or in a common toilet area.
