White Magic Foundation

Devariyatal Chopta ridge   WM was born out of our love for the mountains and a desire to make a living doing what we love! Our entire team comes from various corners of the Himalaya. It is home for us and we strongly believe that adventure tourism if carried out in a responsible way can help foster the economic development and progress that the region desperately needs. We have always been committed to the well-being of mountain cultures, communities and environment, and over the years have been making a contribution in our own little way. In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst caused devastating floods and landslides in the state of Uttarakhand, recognized as the country's worst natural disaster of the past decade. Thousands of people lost their lives or were left homeless. Roads and bridges were washed away and people who survived were trapped in various valleys with no food, shelter or support. The White Magic team pitched to render whatever help we could. The concern of our clients for the dire plight of the mountain people, many of whom had been their guides, cooks and porters during treks, at this time of misfortune and their collective desire to reach out to them through White Magic, gave rise to the White Magic Foundation. White Magic Foundation (WMF) has since been registered under the Societies Registration Act and we will be channeling all our CSR activities through it. In 2014-15 we have identified two CSR projects to be executed through the White Magic Foundation. The first is a community based project in the Miyar Valley in and the second, aimed at saving the fragile environment of the Chadar in Zanskar. 1) MIYAR VALLEY PROJECT: At WM we have always believed that the Himalayan communities should benefit from our business – one big reason why almost our entire team is local. Our staff members hail from various corners of the Himalaya - Ladakh, Garhwal, Kumaon, Nepal, Sikkim and Darjeeling. They have committed to supporting the Miyar Valley Project, where we will be carrying out several trekking and climbing trips in 2015 apart from many other initiatives to bring empowerment to the Miyaris who have always been hardy folks and one of the first to engage with the tourism sector in Himachal. See more about the project here. 2) SAVE THE CHADAR: As genuine lovers of the outdoors, we have been very conscious about the impact our travels have on the fragile mountain wildernesses that we frequent. From the very beginning, we have been proactive about protecting and conserving the pristine environment that we depend upon. We truly embrace the philosophy of - “take only memories, leave only footprints” and are very particular about leaving the trails and campsites cleaner than we found them. We operated our first Chadar trip in 2013 and were very disturbed by the amount of filth and garbage we found littering the trail. So in Jan, 2015 we are leading our first of our “Clean Sweep” projects, on the Chadar. We will collect and bring back as much garbage as possible to the road head for proper disposal. We would appreciate any kind of help in terms of volunteering or donations to help us bring these projects to fruition. Donations can be directed to the following account created specifically for our CSR activities.
